Flarey @ Gallery Icons!

Wed Dec 23, 2009, 1:17 AM
Hello hello!

If you'll step into my office, and so kindly view my Gallery, you'll see that I've updated - I now have snazzy new icons to show off my groups :)

And since I'm pretty proud of them, but they don't count as deviations, I thought I'd post them here to check out if you want to see them all at once!

Also, I'd like to dedicate a few of them to some special people...

Lilith and her piggy, representing the Chibi Works collection. I'd like to dedicate it as an icon to my youngest sister Madison, and her recent delight with everything Lilith.

For Line Work and Sketchings, I've chosen myself with my famed art book. This one, I'd like to dedicate to deviantART itself, as a whole, since you know... Without it, we couldn't even do cool stuff like this ;)

This one features little Flarey-chan, mascot of FlareyWorks, for Wallpapers and Banners. This, I'd like to dedicate to a very old friend of mine named Carolyn - also known as Sharayah, and to me, Papillia. I miss you, Papillia~

Lol, Dev. For Making Things, it's Dev, who climbed into a jar and found a way of corking himself in, of course. Dedicated to anyone who's ever felt the black blood calling!

The old Jauws-dan stories, from my old uni friends and group, featuring the Ghost Kage. So, this icon is dedicated to the memory of the Ghost Kage... He was a pretty cool ghost who knew tai kwon do and didn't afraid of anything ;P

My computer, Phoenix, and my mobile phone, Eighteen, both with humans forms, are the representatives of my Comics collection. And, appropriately, I'm dedicating this particular icon to Phoenix herself, without whom, none of this could even be possible.

For my Fanarts group, I chose Frederica Bernkastel, from Umineko no Naku Koro Ni. Since this character is a bit more special, I want to dedicate this icon, and the whole group it represents, to an old friend of mine who I met through my boyfriend, and kept through anime and a mutual love of idiotic TV shows. He'll know who he is.

Years ago, I met Lippie, my essence in creature form. I created a sprite, using Pokemon, to show his form. He's been my longest running character, and pretty high up on the list of my longest running friends. So, I want to dedicate this one to another of my oldest friends - Max Catt, Rubypoke, who was there when I met Lippie and is still sneaking around here ;)

FlareyWorks official Seal of Approval©! For a collection of my best and brightest works, nothing less. And it's a weird thing to do, but I want to dedicate it to everything that's ever inspired me... and it's a lengthy list.

The Powerpuff Girls and Pokemon, inspiring me to draw when I was very young.
Bleedman, teaching me a better style.
The Japanese Anime @ UWS club, for giving me anime and encouragement.
Steampunk Gordo, Nightwish Guy, Stein, GothGirl, that crazy group and anyone else who constantly supports me at conventions - you make me want to keep improving!

So there you have it... I've done my one soppy thing for the year, so I guess I'll see y'all after Christmas with more ;)

Don't forget, January 1st opens the all new DesignYourOwn Badges and Stickers Competition, sponsored by FlareyWorks!!! Get excited! :D

Flarey @ Christmas!

Hey y'all;

As you know, it's that wonderful time of year again... (Honestly, I don't understand it. What's the reason? Okay, the Jesus idea. Jesus was born in September... The Pagan date? How many people know or care? I just don't get it)

Anyway... Next year is a brand new year, full of surprises. Here's a few things I have in store for you:

x New items available at conventions, like posters and prints.
x Contests for badge and sticker designs.
x Lots more polls, please answer as many as you can :)

So, I'd love some feedback for the year... What did you like best that I put up? How could I get more people interested in my polls and forums? Who wants me to keep writing the stories I began? Who wants me to draw more of Lilith?

Let me know, and anything else you can think of. I love your feedback, omnom :3

Lots of love;
Flarey!

Flarey @ Art Quiz.

Fri Dec 4, 2009, 8:49 PM
Stolen from :iconleviathen: !

Your name?
Flarey. Or Juliet.

If possible, your age?
19HY.

When did you start drawing?
Probably preschool - as young as I can recall, and before that!

Which hand do you use for drawing?
Right hand!

Which is easier to draw - male or female?
Female, lol. Males bodies often end up looking girly...

What style of hair do you enjoy drawing more?
Loooong hair. Or short hair. Or spiky hair. I like drawing hair :3

Is it easier to draw the head angled towards the right or the left?
I can do both... but I suppose, towards the left is a bit easier.

Is it easier to draw the side view of the face or the front view?
Definitely front. I can do it, but it's much harder to wrap my head around the profile.

What do you have problems drawing?
Hands, sometimes. Or feet, also. Or the side profile of faces. But I persevere!

What do you like to draw?
My characters the best! Flarey-chan, Lippie... or just whatever I like the most at a time. I used to have obsessions and drawn the same thing for a week, hundreds of times, but I seem to have grown out of that...

Are you a traditional artist or a digital artist?
I draw on paper, then scan it in! Then color it digitally. Not to say I can't color traditionally... Plus I make digital banners, and traditional posters. So, all of the above!

Where do you start drawing from?
The head, and I make a stick figure to use as a base!

What is your drawing habit that you are aware of?
Hmm... I... don't... know.

Oh, but Leviathen :iconleviathen: answered that she takes hours to touch up a scan, I have a tip for that!

Flarey Tips: Scan your picture in, then use the Brightness and Contrast to the max to get a simple black line! To erase those dotty colors, use Black and White, to tell it to reduce to only two colors! Takes hour off your work :)

Any tips for coloring/shading?
You just missed one! Apart from that... Highlight the color you want to shade using the Magic Wand tool, then use that to shade color by color!

How long does it take to finish a piece of art?
A few hours at most. I work fast! >:)

What music do you listen to while you draw?
Any of my favorite musics. What I feel like changes - right now I have a lot of anime music from all my favorite anime!

How long does it take you to come up with an idea?
I don't draw unless I have one - I'm easily inspired :)

Your favorite drawing utensils?
My gorgeous (and pretty sure one-of-a-kind) Faber Castell pacer, and my equally appreciated but less rare and unique Quill art books! Plus the rare dying species of Eno Soft Blue leads. They're dying out! :(

Your favorite color/the color that you use a lot?
Soft Blue, from Eno leads :3

Your favorite style(s)?
Soul Eater and Bleedman!

What kind of artist are you aiming for?
I don't want to be an artist for real. I just like doing it for fun. But I try and sell chibi works :)

Now you should fill it out, and let me know! :D

I'd like to submit a psychological journal article, if you'd be so kind.

Observe the following link.

Some quick backstory: Psypoke is one of the best (no sarcasm) informational sites on Pokemon there is. Serebii.net's got nothing in comparison, Psypoke really does have all of the latest, most fleshed out stuff on Pokemon.

Then we get to the forums. I used to be a member, years ago, when I was young - back then, there were Teams and games and RPs and all kinds of good things filled with love. There was trolling and flaming, but hey, it's the internet right? Find me a site with no trolls or flame wars, and I guarantee you it's not actually on the internet :P

Registeel_Rocks was a good friend of mine. He was a member of Team Psyche, if I recall correctly - the team I was in, and was lucky enough to be the Leader of for a while there. He was one of those open, friendly, happy people that you just have to like. He wasn't "cool" by any definition, but he also wasn't one of the "losers" (i.e. myself and my best friends) who the Admins hated. He was just a pretty cool guy who posted well and didn't afraid of anything.

Back in those days, it was easy to observe a certain heirachy in the forums. You had your Elite 4, the Admins and wise rulers. Then you had your Global Mods. Next was your general Mods per forum. Then were your "cool" kids - in my time, the Krisp, the Swift. Then you had your pleb members, who made the site buzz but whose specific names you never remembered. Then you had me and my friends. Of course, even below us were always those randoms who'd join, yell at someone and leave, but that's not part of the story.

So you're wondering, why is this thread so funny to me? Let me delve further.

Back in my day, it was kinda like how people treat the Australian driver's license plates. You know, how the L Plates have to follow all the rules, but the red P Plates feel they're excempt, and the green P Plates only have a few rules here and there? Except in this case - Global Mods have their red Ps, Mods have their green Ps, and the plebs have their blacks. If you're following the analogy I'm trying to make, it goes like this - if you're a Mod, the rules are just there for you to point at if someone you don't like goes near the line. If you're a member, the rules are there to be followed to the strictest of Ts.

Now, back to this thread. I bring it up because it is really the finest of examples of how the mechanics and group sociology of Psypoke works. Observe the thread's name - "AWWWW YEAH". Now, observe the poster - my old friend, Registeel_Rocks. Let's call the thread's topic the Dependant Variable, and the thread poster the Independant Variable. Should, say, Gardevoir~ have posted a thread with the title "AWWWW YEAH", on any topic, it would surely have gone ignored. Should, say, Sneaky_Sneasel have posted it - it would have been ridiculed. But if say, another poster in this thread - Ryan121 - had posted it, that would be a guaranteed lock without a warning. He would have been told that the thread's content is spam, and that he needs not post a thread about it.

Why is this interesting? Because it shows clearly the levels of double standard at work. If you're on the A List, you can post what you like, where you like, and other A Listers will gather in glee.

Now observe Ryan121's reply. From a purely observational point of view, compare it to the other posts. We clearly have several posters replying with various humorous pictures referring to different memes, all showing their approval of Registeel's comment. And yet, why is Ryan121's reply any different? He too posted a pictoral piece of meme'd approval. And yet he was banned.

The causal variable can then be said to be, not the content of the post in any way, but the poster. Basically, if a cool member posts a cool thread flogging the dead rules into the ground, and you're not a cool member, posting there won't make you cool. It'll make you banned.

And that, my friends, is why I had to laugh at this thread.

Flarey @ America!

Thu Oct 22, 2009, 4:34 PM
So, I just got back from America this Tuesday, and it was AWESOME! I'm sad to have to return to Australia :(

EVERYTHING is cheaper there - like, crazy cheaper. Yes, tax is not inbuilt, so they expect you to do math, but half the time, you get to the register and pay even less than the tag claims on things!

I got all kinda of cool things - a trench coat, a skirt with handcuffs on it, a corset top; I got a tiny Smurf, and a huge lion pillow; and I got heaps of American candy!

Disneyland:
- Was awesome as ever;
- Was done up Halloween - everything orange and black and the characters in costumes;
- Is where I spent most of my money;
- Sadly ruined the Haunted Mansion ride by doing it over Nightmare Before Christmas style;
- Updated the Indiana Jones ride, which is the best ride ever.

California Adventure:
- Was better than I honestly thought it'd be;
- Had a lot of different rides that my family loved;
- Had Halloween setups too - a garden of vegetables as candy corn;
- Had dinosaur bones in the rocks;
- Was interesting to look around, but better for people who like rides ;P

Legoland:
- Was a bit sadder than last time, fading a lot;
- Updated to love Volvo - they had reserved parking spaces for people driving Volvos;
- Sold everything under the sun to do with Lego, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Lego;
- Had cooking and kitchenware - Lego style;
- Was still impressive with hundreds of life-sized figures made of Lego!

Universal Studios:
- Hey Disneyland, I'm real happy for you, and Imma let you finish, but Universal Studios is the best theme park of all time. OF. ALL. TIME.;
- Was done up adult-style for Halloween - none of this kiddy-cute ghosties and happy pumpkins - they had rotting corpses chained to hearses, dead pigs hanging from burcher's windows, zombies in pens, bloody handprints on windows and walls;
- Had a SAW exhibit - but in their Halloween Horror Night section, which was seperately ticketed :(
- Showed awesome shows, like Backdraft, showing off the fire techniques and some sets, a studio tour where we saw the sets of Jaws, Psycho (got chased by the guy from it), Desperate Housewives, CSI, Heroes, Murder She Wrote and a billion western sets;
- Got rid of the Back to the Future ride for a Simpsons ride :(
- Was generally the best thing ever.
- Sold me SAW merchandise, like the ACTUAL doll from Saw IV that John Cramer gave to his wife!!!

Everything else?

Best food: Taco Bell.
Best shop: Hot Topic.
Besto condition: America.

Generally totally awesome - and I plan to go back as soon as I possibly can!
